Club House – Safeguarding

“Cycling should be a safe and positive experience for everybody. All those involved in
the sport have a part to play in safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk.”-
British Cycling 2024.

HCC have two Club Welfare Officers – Emily Murphy and Alison Hughes, both of
whom have undertaken British Cycling Safeguarding training, and who will be the first
point of contact regarding any welfare concerns, poor practice and potential or alleged
abuse. As part of their role, they will promote safeguarding, report concerns and work
with others to create a safe and inclusive environment, in which everyone can
experience the joy of cycling. Both Emily and Alison have an in date DBS check.
Club coaches

As an accredited Go-Ride Club, we have a commitment to ongoing training for our
volunteers, coaches and officials, to have a sound structure, to be fair and equitable
and to undertake training to support British Cycling’s policies and guidelines for child
protection and best practice. Go-Ride sessions are delivered by British Cycling qualified
coaches, who have also attended courses on child protection, have an in date DBS
check, and hold a current first aid certificate.

All coaching sessions are risk-assessed and HCC takes relevant actions to reduce any
possible risks. As such, HCC does everything in their power to provide a safe
environment in which your child can cycle. Cycling, however, does have its risks and
even the best riders still fall off occasionally!
